I wish to discover a sense of myself as I am, here and now. What is alive in me? There are roots that grow deep down into being, to the place in the body where life originates. Life does not originate in the organs or even the cells. It originates, strangely, before the body even comes to be here. For it is an energy. My sense of being arises within a field of energy that is collected by the atoms and molecules, bonded together by the cells, brought into community by my organs, and becomes a whole creature that embodies this awareness that I have. For now, I redirect my attention so that I sense only the energy which does not have such well-defined limits as the body and does not stop at the edge and the end of the body but is part of a whole energy that is conscious. I am but one more concentrated part of that field of energy here. The breathing is in a deeper relationship with the energy that exists outside of the concentration and to draw sustenance from it. In this way, I am linked to and feed from the greater communities on the planet, all of which I am in relationship with. And I understand life in a different way. Through my cells, and my molecules and my atoms. And through the energy that they gather together here in such a way that I am connected to the gravity of the planet and the magnetism of awareness, and that for a little while, this is all there is. The recognition that I am is a creature of the cosmos and inhabits a realm so vast it cannot be contained in any body. And there are doors deep inside me that open gently now. I say yes to this energy. Yes to being. Yes to life.
