This great act of creation

Being has great depths, 
which I fail to remember 
for as long as I remain strictly on the surface 
which is constantly stirred 
by events from the outer world,

even sometimes storms that disturb everything—
not just the surface 
but some parts of being that lie below it,
deeper in me.

right now I wish to come into contact
with the depths of being,
organically 
by investing in the sensation of my body. 

I breathe in quite simply 
and allow the breath to develop 
its own right relationship 
with the sensation of my cells and molecules 
so that they come together here 
as a benediction, 
a blessing that says to me, 

it is all right to be here for a moment 
and be still 
and just live in this moment 

without regard for outwardness 
and the disturbances it may bring. 

All of my responsibilities and obligations 
are within a few feet of me here 
and within a minute or two. 

Yet all of my possibilities 
are within a millimeter of me here right now 
and only a second away from being realized. 

In order to attend well to the world of responsibility,
it is important to attend to the world of possibility here. 

To intelligently form the partnership of being 
through organic sensation 
that can help me to be more mindful 
and more present 
and to meet these immediate responsibilities and obligations 

which are true and proper and right to a creature such as myself, 
who has been granted life with all its benefits 
and is asked only to respond reciprocally 
with love and kindness. 

The sensation of being, this molecular sensation of being 
gradually begins to become more cosmological in nature 
in such a way that I see how the gift of this life 
and my responsibilities towards love and kindness 
are a function not of my own thoughts or morality 
and not a function of what I was taught when I grew up 

but rather a function of the cosmos 
which is inviting me to participate with it 
in this great act of creation 
that always takes place now.
